If you are looking for a five-star experience, SENSI is the place to go. However, it does rain a lot less between May and September, making it a better time to enjoy all of the outdoor activities that the Azores have to offer. Terceira island is nicknamed “the festive island” because it’s known for its local festivals that are full of life and represent Azorean culture. The island’s beauty is a consequence of the contrast between the natural landscapes of the volcanic island and the human-built historic center.
The area offers a lovely, quaint atmosphere perfect for relaxation. With a population of about 250,000 people, the Azores are a peaceful and remote destination. The island offers spectacular volcanic landscapes, whale watching tours, and charming small towns with narrow streets and nice restaurants. The hotel offers a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and it’s a great option for families and couples alike.
Local restaurants offer this unique dining experience, allowing you to savor the flavors while surrounded by nature. A popular activity here is to enjoy a traditional “cozido” meal. The bubbling mud pools are fascinating and draw many people to the area. Visitors can experience the incredible power of nature firsthand.
Futurismo Azores Adventures is a great choice for a whale watching adventure from the harbor in Ponta Delgada. Visitors are able to explore five floors of ruined corridors, rooms and balconies unrestricted while marvelling at walls covered in colorful paintings and grafitti. If you visit the Azores for Tremor, you’ll have plenty of time to explore Sao Miguel as gigs are mostly in the evenings. Whether you’re exploring the volcanic craters of São Miguel, taking a dip. Located midway between Europe and North America, the Azores are a group of nine Portuguese volcanic islands known for their breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable outdoor experiences. Don’t miss out on trying local cheeses and sweet treats—it’s all part of the Azorean culinary adventure!
Weather in Azores
I was dripping sweat constantly and it’s not uncommon for both hotels/rentals and cars to not have A/C. When I hear mid-70s, that doesn’t sound hot to this summer-lovin’ girl, but I definitely didn’t pack enough hot weather clothes for the Azores. The islands are often super windy (especially on the coasts), and also are prone to rapidly shifting weather and microclimates within each island. If you only have a very short time on an island—like a day or less—then a guided tour with transportation may make sense, but otherwise you need to rent a car and be able to explore on your own. One note, if you’re booking more than one inter-island flight with Azores Airlines, you can save a lot of money by booking them together as a multi-city trip. For example, from Pico to Faial it’s a ferry ride of 30 minutes (easy), while from Pico to São Jorge the transfer takes an hour and a half.
There are 9 Islands in the Azores
I have now experience the spots on the most western part of the islands all year round, and let me tell you that these places really shine in the Summer. It overlooks the ocean, at a break where surfers are paddling out, and equally of note – they are open on Sundays, a rarity in the Azores. The wine pairings are all local and thoughtful and the people who make this place hum are warm, wonderful, talented people. Whether eating inside, on the outdoor patio or under the private pergola, which I did once (and loved), it is all perfect.
Yes, though the main language is Portuguese, most people speak English at least on all of the islands in the archipelago. This is worth taking into consideration if you’re planning lots of strenuous outdoor activities. São Miguel is the largest and most καταλογοσ κοκτειλ populated of the islands and is home to over half the population of the Azores. Visit the Azores (“Açores” in Portuguese) and you’ll have the opportunity to experience unspoiled nature in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
